Don’t go!

‘Stop! Don’t go!’ He shouted.
As Lizzy stepped on board the boeing 747, she knew that she would never look back. The hatred, pain and longing for something that was never going to stay, was finally going to leave her. Or was she leaving it?

The flight was long. She read a magazine on Country Living, it wasn’t exactly appropriate for her destination but she knew that if she didn’t read, she would think. It seems that you should dead head roses, she was always looking at her neighbours flower beds wondering how they got them to look so delightful. Lizzy’s flowerbeds consisted of dandelions and buttercups, that’s about as delightful as she could get them. Everything she planted died. Like her heart. It was dead. Perhaps if she had watered them, she might have been slightly more successful. She giggled to herself and thought, well, I don’t need to worry about flowerbeds anymore. Her thoughts then returned to the present and for a second, she wanted to scream out loud to turn the plane around.

She was scared, scared of what was coming. What was she doing? Leaving her friends and her job! Lizzy sat in silence for a few minutes, still pondering on her decision. All she could hear was the rattling of the luggage in the overhead lockers. Why do people insist on putting their luggage in these thing? Lizzy knew she was rambling. She realised, she was frightened by newness. Was that even a word, she wondered.

Lizzy was the oldest of two girls. Her mother had always said, ‘our Lizzy isn’t the smartest cookie in the jar, but alas, she’ll be the one that does something prodigious.’ Lizzy was never exactly sure what her mother had meant by that, infact, she wasn’t sure she ever wanted to know or would ever find out.

In just 8 hours, she would touch down, touch down to what? Oblivion? She knew that it was impossible to be sure of what awaited her, but Lizzy knew that this was what she had dreamed of. She had longed to break free, to fly like a bird and feel the wind on her face. But she hadn’t prepared herself for what lay ahead.
